Good to know: Using the Matrix pad is basically identical to using a regular pad (tablet) and requires no additional knowledge or training. GrapheneOS does not use Google Play services or other Google features. However, Google Play services can be installed in a separate user profile in the few cases where the service may be required, such as specific apps.
Virtually all apps on the market work as usual in the secure profile without Google Play services. The few that don't work at all or only partially can still run in the separate user profile with a slightly lower level of privacy isolated from the secure profile. However, BankID works in the secure profile and most banking apps also work perfectly.
GrapheneOS is an operating system that focuses on offering a high level of security and privacy to its users. It is specifically designed to be free of Google software and services, providing a private and secure environment for users who want to reduce their dependence on Google. The choice of the Google Pixel Tablet as the primary hardware platform for GrapheneOS, despite the aim of removing Google software, is partly because the Pixel series is known for its strong hardware security. They contain security chips like Titan M, which provide a robust level of protection against physical and software-based attacks. GrapheneOS leverages these hardware features to improve the overall security of its operating system.
Although GrapheneOS removes the Google software, it benefits from the high frequency of new security updates and the underlying Android software, providing a stable platform that will operate and be maintained for many years.
